Most people experience periods in life where they could benefit from the help of a caring and supportive person; a licensed psychologist provides that and more. As a counseling psychologist, my treatment approach is to provide support and practice feedback to help clients resolve current problems.  I view therapy as a partnership between myself and my client, where the client identifies the goals and I provide the expertise and guidance helpful in achieving those goals.

I believe that one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are interrelated. I work with clients to help them gain awareness and insight into these aspects of their being. I assist clients by helping to uncover their assets and teaching them helpful strategies to practice when determining new ways of behaving. My treatment approach stems from research and utilizes evidence based strategies to address problems. Blending conventional and alternative approaches, I draw on a variety of styles and techniques to incorporate what will be most helpful for each client. In addition, I consider external factors such as family and relationship dynamics as well as social, economic and cultural factors. This allows me to view the person and their environment in a dynamic fashion which acknowledges the impact that our surroundings have on us and that we in turn have on our world. I work to empower my clients to make lasting change in their lives.

More than 20% of children will experience some form of mental health problem during their childhood and many will go on to suffer long term; however, seeing a child psychologist can provide direction to both parents and children and reduce the likelihood of carrying problems into adulthood. Problems that occur in the course of child development may include: anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, behavioral issues, school problems, bullying, adjustment problems, substance abuse, obesity and more. Talking to your pediatrician may be the first step. Oftentimes, as a caretaker, it may be difficult to recognize the signs of a problem, but it can be even worse to watch your child suffer. With expertise in child development, I can help you and your child create a plan to wellness.

Today approximately 8.9 million adults have a mental health or substance use disorder, with depression being the most common, affecting almost 7% of adults in any given year (American Psychological Association, 2012). There is significant evidence that depression and other psychological problems can be improved through therapy. Psychotherapy is more than a quick fix - it works! With sensitivity and compassion, I help people apply their unique strengths to overcome obstacles and create lasting change in their lives. Unfortunately, stigma is often the main barrier to getting help. While some problems will resolve on their own, often times professional intervention would speed up recovery and decrease the emotional suffering.
